Mexican forces have captured Luis Jesus Sarabia, an alleged leader of the Zetas drug gang in three northern Mexican states.
Sarabia is suspected in the killing of a U.S. immigration agent last year.
Army spokesman Gen. Ricardo Trevilla says Sarabia is a confidant of Zetas leader Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano and was in charge of operations in the states of Coahuila, Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosi.
U.S. agent Jaime Zapata was attacked in San Luis Potosi last February while driving on a main highway. Fellow agent Victor Avila was injured.
Trevilla said Sarabia was captured on Wednesday without a shot fired. He is suspected in 50 executions, most involving members of a rival cartel.
