Media Pundit Named in Jesse Jackson Lawsuit

Via: Accuracy in Media, By: Cliff Kincaid

Tamara Holder, a Fox News contributor, is accused of having an affair with Jesse Jackson, Sr. in a lawsuit that alleges the illegal use of a gay Jackson employee to facilitate the relationship. The accuser, Tommy R. Bennett, was Jackson’s personal travel assistant and ran the legal clinic at Jackson’s organization, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. He says he was eventually fired for protesting his treatment by Jackson and other PUSH employees and is seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages.

Holder has not responded to repeated requests for comment from Accuracy in Media, but Jackson’s press representative, Lauren Love, says the allegations are false and will be proven so.

Bennett attorney Thomas V. Leverso says that Jackson and PUSH have been stonewalling a legal response for many months but that investigations and the case are moving forward. Leverso tells Accuracy in Media that witnesses have come forward to verify the allegations against Jackson.

Jackson, a minister and Democratic politician who served as an aide to Martin Luther King, Jr., suffered a major embarrassment in 2010 when he admitted to an extramarital affair that produced an illegitimate child.

Bennett worked for Jackson for more than two years and was known as “Aruba Tommy” on local Chicago radio station WVON. The lawsuit alleges that Bennett was subjected to “humiliating tasks” because he was a homosexual, such as “escorting women to his [Jackson’s] hotel room” and then being ordered to clean up after Jackson had sexual intercourse with them.

One of those women, the suit claims, was Tamara Holder, a pundit and criminal defense attorney whoclaims she “single-handedly” founded what she calls “a pro bono legal clinic at Rev. Jesse L. Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition.” A self-described Democrat, she appears regularly on Fox News to defend the Obama Administration and other prominent Democrats. “Because of the Democratic Party’s deep Chicago roots, Tamara has worked closely with some of the City’s most prominent leaders,” her websitesays.

Another Holder website says that, in addition to being “a legal and political contributor for Fox News Channel,” she “previously wrote for The Huffington Post and now writes for The Daily Caller.” The latteridentifies her as “one of the nation’s rising attorneys and legal analytical stars.”

On one occasion, “Mr. Bennett was instructed by Rev. Jackson to escort Ms. Holder to Rev. Jackson’s hotel room at the Hilton at Chicago O’Hare airport,” the suit says.

The lawsuit, filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, says Bennett was director of the clinic but that when he objected to Holder taking a majority of the cases and charging too much to poor clients, he was replaced. He says Jackson then gave control of the clinic to Holder.

The allegations are the subject of several legal actions and complaints, including one by Bennett to the Chicago Commission on Human Relations, which is still under investigation, and another to the Illinois Department of Human Rights, which was not acted upon, prompting the lawsuit.

Bennett’s original complaint consisted of seven charges, including that Jackson exhibited a “bigoted attitude” toward homosexuals and ordered him to perform “improper job duties.” This was followed by a “supplemental statement of facts” from his attorney that runs eight pages in length.

This document declares, “It was well known that Ms. Holder was a mistress of Rev. Jackson,” and states that the Jackson family was informed of this because of a letter from another Jackson mistress.

It refers to Jackson visiting Holder’s apartment, while Bennett waited in a car outside, and “several occasions” during which Bennett “was instructed by Rev. Jackson to escort Ms. Holder to Rev. Jackson’s hotel room at the Hilton at Chicago O’Hare airport.”

Lauren Love, who runs the Rainbow PUSH Coalition press department, provided a statement to AIM that said:

“The Rainbow PUSH Coalition unequivocally denies Tommy Bennett’s false claims of harassment, retaliation and discrimination. The Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. unequivocally denies Tommy Bennett’s false claims of harassment, retaliation and discrimination. We are fully cooperating with the Chicago Commission on Human Relations and expect to be fully exonerated.

“The organization does not condone or tolerate discrimination in any form. Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition stands on their record of advocating for equality and human rights for all people—from standing up to affirm the humanity of persons with HIV-AIDS and advocating for HIV-AIDS education and research, to supporting marriage equality and the abolition of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy of the U.S. Military.

“His inflammatory allegations are an attempt to malign Rev. Jackson and the organization, and are hurtful and harmful to the progressive community.

“Rainbow PUSH and Rev. Jackson will have no further comment while the matter is pending before the Commission.”

The Bennett allegations have been covered by some gay media and one of the supermarket tabloids. The National Enquirer, which broke the story of the Jackson mistress that produced the illegitimate child, wrote about the Bennett charges in a story headlined, “Jesse Jackson Gay Sex Shocker Legal War.”

The Courthouse News Service has run a lengthy account of the “lurid” allegations, while the Chicago Sun-Times published a small story which made no mention of Tamara Holder being named in it. Holder says the Chicago Sun-Times once recognized her as one of “50 People Who Make Chicago a Better Place.”

In addition to the alleged relationship with Holder, Jackson is accused of demanding sexual favors from Bennett, such as being told to apply a cream on Jackson’s inner thigh to treat a rash. Bennett says he refused, Jackson became angry, and called Bennett a “little mother——.”

“My termination was discriminatory and retaliatory,” says Bennett’s complaint. He was told he was fired because of a “drastic economic downturn” when in fact another individual was hired to replace him.

Fox News Lib Commenter: Questioning Elizabeth Warren’s Bogus Indian Heritage Only Appeals To “White Boys”…

Oozing classiness.

Tucker Carlson: “Having a great grandparent who may or may not have been Native American is not a qualification. Being 1/32nd some racial group is not a qualification, okay, it’s an accident of history. It’s something over which you had no control and for which in a just society you would not be rewarded.”

Obama’s Yard Sale: Selling Out America

Via, Canada Free Press, By Michael Oberndorf, RPA

From the very beginning of Obama-Soetoro’s illegal occupancy of the once-revered and respected office of President of the United States of America, he and his unindicted co-conspirators have been feverishly working to “fundamentally change” America. As expected by those who paid attention and actually read Mein Kamph…er…Dreams From My Father and the facts known about Obama-Soetoro’s philosophical background, the changes have all been aimed at turning America into a Soviet-style dictatorship. And as we get closer to the 2012 elections, the pace of selling out America is increasing significantly.

“Mr. Obama told the French (the French!) that America ‘has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive’ toward Europe.

In Prague, he said America has ‘a moral responsibility to act’ on arms control because only the U.S. had ‘used a nuclear weapon.’

In London, he said that decisions about the world financial system were no longer made by ‘just Roosevelt and Churchill sitting in a room with a brandy’—as if that were a bad thing.

And in Latin America, he said the U.S. had not ‘pursued and sustained engagement with our neighbors’ because we ‘failed to see that our own progress is tied directly to progress throughout the Americas.’” (Wall Street Journal) Americans, I sincerely hope, will remember Obama-Soetoro’s disgraceful performances on what became known as his Apologize for America Tour. Who can forget the picture of his scrawny backside, as he bowed before the King of Saudi Arabia? Or his groveling before Muslims in Egypt, claiming that America is not a Christian nation? Karl Rove summed much of it up nicely in a Wall Street Journal article:

“Mr. Obama told the French (the French!) that America ‘has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive’ toward Europe. In Prague, he said America has ‘a moral responsibility to act’ on arms control because only the U.S. had ‘used a nuclear weapon.’ In London, he said that decisions about the world financial system were no longer made by ‘just Roosevelt and Churchill sitting in a room with a brandy’—as if that were a bad thing. And in Latin America, he said the U.S. had not ‘pursued and sustained engagement with our neighbors’ because we ‘failed to see that our own progress is tied directly to progress throughout the Americas.’” (Wall Street Journal)

He had Hilary Clinton apologize to the Russians, with her “reset” button nonsense, a high school gesture that she managed to botch. However, Obama-Soetoro, die-hard (though knee-jerk) Marxist that he is, has never given up pandering to Vladimir Putin, whom many suspect is still the hard-line Communist he was when he was a Lt. Colonel in the KGB, the Soviet secret police. The scrapping of the plan to install missile defenses in Poland and the Czech Republic was clearly a kowtowing move, aimed at impressing Moscow. This was followed by the START treaty, which many experts say was a big step in Obama-Soetoro’s unilateral denuclearization scheme that gave Russia a significant advantage over the U.S., especially in tactical nuclear weapons.

And as the traitorous cherry on top of the sell-out sundae, like a teen-age boy trying to act like a big shot, B. Hussein recently let slip to the Russians that after “my next election,” he will have more “flexibility” regarding America’s unilateral disarmament.

Also recently, Barry the Red has secretly arranged to give seven Alaskan islands, one the size of Rhode Island and Delaware combined, and rights to billions of barrels of oil, to his Russian comrades. The U.S., over the objections of the State of Alaska, drew the line giving Russia the islands as part of a supposed maritime boundary agreement. This goes nicely with Obama-Soetoro’s and Leon Panetta’s support for the UN’s Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) and the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), both of which cede control of the oceans, including America’s territorial waters, to the UN. Rhetorical question: Do you think the UN will allow us to drill for any oil or gas in these waters?

While the current Marxist administration in Washington is not responsible for coming up with the idea, it has been moving right along on the furtherance of a North American Union, too. Surrender Secretary, Leon Panetta, was just up in Canada to discuss over-border military co-operation with Mexico and Canada. And the Fraud in the White House, himself, just met with the leaders of Mexico and Canada at the White House.

This one, however, didn’t go so well for The Smartest Man in the Room. Seems the Mexicans are not pleased with Obama-Soetoro’s and Eric holder’s gun-running scheme – Fast and Furious – that led to the smuggling by violent drug cartels of thousands of guns into Mexico, nor are the Canadians pleased or impressed by Obama-Soetoro’s killing of the Keystone Pipeline.

It goes without saying that the Ministry of Propaganda, aka the “mainstream” media, has done its best to cover up or spin all this. For instance, how many know that back in February, several U.S. “professors” from universities in New York attended a conference in Tehran, Iran, to discuss, of all things, the Occupy Wall Street Movement? Seems this “movement,” which Obama-Soetoro, the Democrat Party, and Academia support, is of great interest to the Muslims who see America as the Enemy, the Great Satan (Weekly Standard).

Space limits this to a partial list, but there is a clear, undeniable pattern here, of selling out America and We, the People, to our enemies. Please, keep this in mind when you vote in November.

CNN ANCHOR HAS TESTY EXCHANGE WITH ALLEN WEST OVER COMMUNIST REMARKS: ‘NAME NAMES’

Via: The Blaze

Allen West’s comments that there are nearly 80 Communists in the House just won’t go away. And CNN is making sure of that.

CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien, for example, had a testy exchange with West on Thursday morning, confronting him on the remarks and demanding he “name names.”

From the beginning, O’Brien was combative, vehemently disagreeing with Allen West regarding Ted Nugent’s controversial recent comments. Then they turned to West’s own remarks. After playing the clip, O’Brien asked him about it, and West said that Communists have “renamed themselves progressive” but the ideology has stayed the same. Mediaite picks it up from there with a transcript:

“So name names for me,” O’Brien said. “Start naming the 78 to 81…”

“Oh, we don’t have to…” West countered.

“Oh, we do! I’m dying to know,” O’Brien pressed. “Which are the members of the…”

“You can go look up the progressive caucus…” interrupted West.

“I got ‘em right here!” O’Brien interjected — and seemingly out of thin air pulled out a list of the members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

“When then you’ve got the names,” West said.

“So Keith Ellison is a communist?” asked O’Brien. “Raúl Grijalva is a communist?”

“Well, look, I’m just talking about the fact that the ideology and principles — you can call it whatever you want…”

“Tammy Baldwin is a communist? Judy Chu is a communist?” O’Brien continued.

“You can call it whatever you want,” West replied.

“Yeah, but I want to know what you’re calling it,” O’Brien said.

“I’m calling it this,” West clarified. “Communist, progressive, Marxist, statist, another term being used. I’m looking at things they believe in. If you don’t think we have to stand upon truth and be able to identify and clearly contrast the different principles and values and ideologies of governance here in this country, then we’re never going to get to the fact of accepting the true debate happening in America. We don’t need a bureaucratic nanny state. We need to stay a Constitutional Republic. I think a lot of people need to study that and understand what it is.”

CNN hasn’t posted the video, but Mediaite captured it:

By the way, here‘s the original video of West’s comments:

John McCain, Mitch Daniels come to Dick Lugar’s rescue

Their ads will air in the closing weeks of Lugar’s neck-and-neck primary. | AP Photo

Mitch Daniels and John McCain are coming to Sen. Dick Lugar’s rescue, POLITICO has learned.

The Indiana governor and the Arizona senator have cut ads on Lugar’s behalf that are likely to air in the closing weeks of his neck-and-neck Republican primary contest.

While the details of the commercials are unclear, two GOP sources confirm that the two political heavyweights are featured in television and radio spots encouraging the election of Lugar to a seventh term.Text Size

A source with knowledge of their participation cautioned that no final decision has been made to run the commercials.

But the pair of high profile surrogates would make a powerful closing argument for Lugar, whose polling lead in the May 8 primary has evaporated in recent months.

The term-limited Daniels is by far the most popular politician in the state, boasting a 63 percent job approval rating according to a recent Howey/DePauw Indiana Battleground Poll.

McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee who carries immense credibility on foreign affairs, could buttress the argument that Lugar’s breadth of experience is invaluable as ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Fresh polling dropped Wednesday showed Lugar may be in need of a late jolt.

Richard Mourdock, the two-term state treasurer, sits dead even with the incumbent, according to a poll conducted by John McLaughlin & Associates for Mourdock’s campaign.

The survey, taken Monday and Tuesday of 400 likely GOP voters, shows Mourdock capturing 42 percent of the vote to Lugar’s 41 percent.

The McLaughlin memo notes that Mourdock has been able to erase a 12-point deficit since January, despite being outspent by approximately 3-to-1 on television.

Earlier this month, Democratic pollster Fred Yang argued that while there’s no quibbling with Daniels’ popularity, there are doubts about its transferability to other Republicans.

“[T]he Republicans in the legislature have a net positive rating of 38% favorable and 36% unfavorable, which is better than the Democrats in the state legislature (32% favorable, 39% unfavorable). Not only is the GOP legislature perceived only marginally better than the Democrats, but also the GOP woefully underperforms the GOP governor,” Yang wrote for Howey Politics Indiana, in a piece assessing Lugar’s chances of re-election

CONGRESSMEN FAIL TO INCLUDE ‘DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS OF AMERICA’ MEMBERSHIP IN THEIR ELECTION CAMPAIGNS

John G. Winder, The Cypress Times

Sheila Jackson Lee and President Obama

Sheila Jackson Lee (Dem, TX 18th) serves as Vice Chair

An article appeared nearly one year ago in the Canada Free press outlining the intertwining relationship between the progressive movement, the socialist movement, communism, the Democratic Socialists of America, The Congressional Black Caucus and elected representatives of the United States House of Representatives. The article was completely ignored by the U.S. press.

On August 13, 2009, JB Williams of the Canada Free Presswrote the following:

“After decades of failed attempts to take over America via their third party initiatives that couldn’t break America’s two party system, leaders of both the Communist Party USA and Socialist Party USA chose a new strategy.

“Both being the ultimate ‘party of the working class stiff,’ they joined forces in a new venture that would work within the US two party system, by hijacking control of one of the two primary parties. As the Democrat Party had already spent years identifying itself as the “party of the working class,” engaging in socio-economic class warfare as its primary method for expanding its political power, it was ripe for the hijacking.

“Together, Communist Party and Socialist Party leaders established the Democratic Socialists of America, and they share a common ideology which is now the platform and mantra of today’s DNC – CPUSA.

“To gain full control of the Democrat Party, DSA leadership established two congressional legislative bodies, headed by DSA/CPUSA/SPUSA members. Today, these are the two congressional bodies in control of congress.

“They are the Congressional Progressive Caucus established by Socialist Party member Bernie Sanders of Vermont, and the Congressional Black Caucus established by Communist Party member John Conyers of Michigan.

“ALL members of these two congressional committees represent the Democratic Socialists of America, as both committees are the creation of, and operate under the control of DSAUSA.”

Is Mr. Williams way off-base in reporting that the DSA is working with the hope of dramatically changing America?  The answer to that question is found in the stated beliefs of the Democratic Socialists of America.

A publication written by the DSA titled “What is Democratic Socialism? Questions and Answers from the Democratic Socialists of America” explains their agenda for America.

The DSA’s view of private corporations – (emphasis mine)

In the short term we can’t eliminate private corporations, but we can bring them under greater democratic control.”

On the notion that a Socialist society would create a lack of desire to work:

“Although a long-term goal of socialism is to eliminate all but the most enjoyable kinds of labor, we recognize that unappealing jobs will long remain. These tasks would be spread among as many people as possible rather than distributed on the basis of class, race, ethnicity, or gender, as they are under capitalism. And this undesirable work should be among the best, not the least, rewarded work within the economy.”

Targeting America’s youth in promoting a socialist agenda:

“Young people are needed in today’s struggles as well: for universal health care and stronger unions, against welfare cuts and predatory multinational corporations. Schools, colleges and universities are important to American political culture. They are the places where ideas are formulated and policy discussed and developed. Being an active part of that discussion is a critical job for young socialists.”

How does the DSA propose to pay for a Socialist USA?

“Most advanced industrial democracies provide these goods through progressive taxation, control of health care costs (either by providing publicly funded national health insurance or regulated insurance options offered by nonprofit health care providers), and the expenditure of a smaller portion of their GDP on the military than does the United States.”

Sound familiar yet?

Regarding separation and differentiation from the Democrat party, the DSA both asks and answers the question emphatically.

“Aren’t you a party that’s in competition with the Democratic Party for votes and support?

No, we are not a separate party. Like our friends and allies in the feminist, labor, civil rights, religious, and community organizing movements, many of us have been active in the Democratic Party. We work with those movements to strengthen the party’s left wing, represented by theCongressional Progressive Caucus.”

What is the Congressional Progressive Caucus? The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) is the largest caucus within the Democratic caucus in the United States Congress with 83 declared members. A list of all 83 members, broken down by state is available HERE.

The membership includes these notable Representatives

Sheila Jackson-Lee – (TX-18, Houston)*

Eddie Bernice Johnson – (TX 30, Dallas)*

Charles Rangle – (NY 15, Harlem)*

John Conyers – (MI 14, Detroit)*

Barney Frank – (MA 4, Newton)

Alan Grayson – (FL 8, Orlando)

6 Representatives from Illinois are members –

Bobby Rush – (IL-1, Chicago)*

Jesse Jackson, Jr.- (IL-2, Chicago Heights)*

Luis Gutierrez – (IL-4, Chicago)

Danny Davis – (IL-7, Chicago)*

Jan Schakowsky – (IL-9, Chicago)

Phil Hare – (IL-17, Rock Island)

California has the most members with 15 –

Lynn Woolsey (CA-6, Santa Rosa) – Co-Chair

George Miller (CA-7, Richmond) – Chairman

Barbara Lee (CA-9, Oakland) – Chairwoman*

Pete Stark (CA-13, Fremont)

Michael Honda (CA-15, San Jose)

Sam Farr (CA-17, Monterey)

Henry Waxman (CA-30, Los Angeles)

Xavier Becerra (CA-31, Los Angeles)

Judy Chu (CA-32, El Monte)

Diane Watson (CA-33, Los Angeles)*

Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34, Los Angeles)

Maxine Waters (CA-35, Inglewood)*

Laura Richardson (CA-37, Long Beach)*

Linda Sánchez (CA-39, Lakewood)

Bob Filner (CA-51, San Diego)

There is also one stand out former member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus:

Nancy Pelosi (CA -8) who resigned her membership upon becoming minority leader of the house.

There is a great deal of overlap in the membership of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus as noted above by an “*”.  These two powerful Caucuses within the United States Congress have combined forces to push the agenda of the Democratic Socialists of America.

The Democratic Socialists of America also boasts an impressive list of your elected representatives, currently seeking your vote again in November.

Since all of the elected representatives listed above have made the decision to give their time and energy to serving in one, two or all three of these groups, how come little is mentioned about this particular activity in their individual campaigns?

A search of both Sheila Jackson Lee’s official website as a member of Congress and of her campaign website finds no mention of the DSA whatsoever.

The campaign website doesn’t mention Lee’s involvement with the Congressional Progressive Caucus, but Lee’s Congressional website does say that she is a member of 45 caucuses and both the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus are listed on that site.

California’s Pete Stark who recently made headlines by saying, “the federal government can do anything,” also fails to mention his association with either the Congressional Progressive Caucus or the Democrat Socialists of America. And on and on.  As you look into the information these politician filter back to the public about their actions and their involvement, you will find no mention of their activities with the DSA, and little to no mention of their involvement with the CPC.

In November Americans will go to the polls to elect a new congress with every seat in the U.S. House up for grabs.  Is your elected representative on any of the above lists? Do you agree with the stated policies and agenda of the DSA?

The DSA concludes its propaganda with a pitch to join them:

“We are part of an international movement fostering solidarity across national borders in order to construct an alternative to the current order. But as residents of the most powerful capitalist nation, we recognize that our greatest act of international solidarity is to build a vibrant, multicultural left in the United States. We invite you to join us in this effort, an effort worthy of a lifetime of commitment.”

If you’re not ready to join in building a new world order and vibrant left, then ask yourself who has the responsibility to protect America from this type of socialist agenda?

That’s easy.   You do.

Hilda Solis and her connections to the CPUSA

Via: Keywiki.org

Education/early career

In 1979, Solis earned a Bachelor Degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona . In 1981, Hilda Solis earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California . During the President Jimmy CarterAdministration, Solis worked in the White House Office of Hispanic Affairs as an intern. Solis was later appointed as a Management Analyst with the Office of Management and Budget in the Civil Rights Division.[1]

Political beginnings

Solis served in the California State Assembly from 1992 to 1994 and made history by becoming the first Hispanic woman elected to the California State Senate (1994-2000). In 2003 Solis became the first Hispanic woman to serve on the powerful House Committee on Energy and Commerce, she served as Vice Chair of the Environment and Hazardous Materials (EHM) Subcommittee and a member of the Health and Telecommunications subcommittees. Solis also served on the House Committee on Natural Resources.[1]

Greetings to the Communist Party

In June 1996 the Communist Party USA paper People’s Weekly World held a tribute event in Los Angeles for unionists Jerry Acosta and Gil Cedillo.

The Southern California Friends of the People’s Weekly World tribute to two of Los Angeles’ finest labor leaders, Jerry Acosta and Gilbert Cedillo, became a dynamic rally of elected officials, activists, labor and community leaders in solidarity with labor struggles and in the fight to defeat the ultra-right in November…
“The People’s Weekly World and all of us in this room feel very strongly about who we honor today,” said Evelina Alarcon, chair of the Southern California District and national secretary of the Communist Party USA, one of the emcees of the tribute. “Jerry Acosta and Gilbert Cedillo represent the new fightback vision of the Sweeney, Trumka, Chavez-Thompson leadership in the AFL-CIO. They represent the rank and file that is pushing from the bottom for that new vision!”

According to the World, Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon, brother of Communist Evelina Alarcon, spoke on behalf of the council which adopted a resolution honoring Acosta and Cedillo;

“Gil Cedillo and Jerry Acosta have changed the whole dynamic of what it means to be for the working class and what it means to fight for workers rights. Because of them and other labor leaders, we have seen a resurgence of strength of the least empowered in our country…

Presentations to the honorees were also made by Clara James, chair of the Community Affairs Commission of the Second Baptist Church, on behalf of Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Antonio Aguilar, on behalf of State Senator Hilda Solis, California’s first Latina elected to the State Senate, who, along with labor, led the drive to put a minimum wage increase initiative on the ballot…[2]

Los Angeles Martinez Jobs Bill support rally

On October 18 1997, Matthew Martinez, State senators Hilda Solis and Diane Watson, City Councilman Richard AlarconMiguel Contreras, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles Federation of Labor and Geraldine Washington, president of the Los Angeles NAACPaddressed a Los Angeles “show us the living wage jobs” rally, as part of a national day of action, calling on Congress to pass the Martinez Jobs Bill. there were concurrent rallies in nearly 20 cities, organized by the Communist Party USA dominated National Labor-Community Coalition For Public Works Jobs. Pastor Cecil Murray of the First AME Church in South Los Angeles sponsored the rally.[3]

Communist support

Hilda Solis also enjoyed strong union and Communist Party USA backing) when she ran for U.S. Congress in 2000. In a report submitted to the Communist Party in November 2000 Evelina Alarcon, Vice Chair CPUSA and Chair Southern California District, commented on Hilda Solis’s Congressional victory;

The monumental victories which are occurring in Los Angeles electorally and in the workplace are because of the coalition building that the labor movement is doing with the Latino and African American community. In Los Angeles, the Labor Federation not only targeted three congressional districts but it had organized 250 volunteers to help State Senator Hilda Solis win her Congressional seat by turning out the union household and Latino vote…
We in the Party can also be proud because our members were involved in all the targeted electoral efforts…[2]

Cuba trip

From April 11 – 14, 2001 Hilda Solis was in Cuba for unspecified purposes. The trip which was funded by the William C. Velasquez Institute, cost $1,214.50.[4]

Democratic Socialists of America conference

An “insurgent” Hilda Solis was a keynote speaker at the 2005 Democratic Socialists of America national conference “Twenty-First Century Socialism” in Los Angeles, with DSA leaders Peter Dreier and Harold Meyerson.
Saturday evening delegates recognized the contributions of DSA vice chair and Washington Post]columnist Harold Meyerson, Occidental College sociologist and longtime DSAer Peter Dreier and insurgent California Congress member Hilda Solis (D) who in turn provided in-depth perspectives of the political scene.

Other speakers included ACORN chief organizer Wade RathkeKent Wong of the UCLA Labor Centerand Roxana Tynan of the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy.[6]

“Progressive” Los Angeles

Leading Los Angeles DSA leader Peter Dreier wrote in DSA’s Democratic Left, Winter 2006[7]on the “progessive” networks around MayorAntonio Villaraigosa and Hilda Solis;

Antonio Villaraigosa….He was a union organizer. He was the head of the ACLU. He came out the barrio and grew up very poor. His father was an alcoholic, beat his mother—he overcame incredible obstacles. He dropped out of high school, and went back and then graduated from UCLA. He worked his way up through the labor movement and then was elected to the state legislature, becoming Speaker of the Assembly.
When he was term-limited out of the legislature he ran for the LA City Council and was elected. When he ran for Mayor the first time in 2001 he lost, but he ran again and won in 2005. Now we have a progressive mayor, thanks in large part to this impressive network of grassroots organizations, labor unions and community and environmental organizations. Many of them have lifted up some of their leaders into positions of electoral power. It’s a network of activists that work closely with elected officials, like Congresswoman Hilda Solis, and it’s just remarkable what L.A. has become.

Woolsey/Sheinbaum fund raiser

Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, the first Member of Congress to call on the President to bring our troops home, was be in Los Angeles on Saturday February 4th 2006, for a ‘very exciting but critical fundraiser against the most well-known, well-financed challenger she’s ever faced”. woolsey was facing a primary challenge from a termed-out Assemblyman Joe Nation, a moderate Democrat who has been critical of her stand on the war and on bringing home our troops. He is raising money from people who have given money to Tom DeLay and Bush-Cheney and his legislative district covers 60+% of Congresswoman Woolsey’s district. Congresswoman Woolsey is a “champion of equal rights, civil liberties, protecting the environment and fighting for single payer healthcare. Congresswoman Woolsey must be re-elected by the same victory margin she has had in the past to send a message to progressives everywhere that’s it IS OK to be courageous, and to not back down on issues that matter.” The Host Committee for this fundraiser includes: Ben AffleckEd AsnerWarren BeattyJodie EvansJames CromwellMatt DamonTom HaydenWendy HerzogMimi KennedyNorman LearStephen RohdeSusie ShannonStanley Sheinbaum & Betty SheinbaumLorraine SheinbergKathy SpillarGloria A. Inspired by Chavez and Huerta

Hilda Solis claims inspiration from Cesar Chavez of the United Farm Workers and Dolores Huerta of UFW and Democratic Socialists of America. She has tried to get the U.S. Congress to honor both activists.[12][13]

Congressional Progressive Caucus

Hilda Solis was a long time member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. On November 19 2008 the Congressional Progressive Caucus announced its elected leadership for the 111th Congress:[14]

As at Dec. 18, 2008, Hilda Solis served on the Board of Directors forAmerican Rights at Work. Following Obama’s announcement that he had selected Solis as the nation’s next Secretary of Labor, American Rights at Work Executive Director Mary Beth Maxwell stated: “Solis… will champion common sense policies like the Employee Free Choice Act to restore balance and create an economy that works for everyone”. Chair of the Board, David Bonior, commented: “I’ve worked with [Solis] for years in Congress and she sits on our Board of Directors – she is a terrific leader who I know first hand will work tirelessly on behalf of America’s working families”.[15]

Labor/socialists welcome appointment

Hida Solis’ appointment as secretary of labor was welcomed by several key labor and socialist figures including Andy SternAnna BurgerStuart Appelbaum and her colleagues at American Rights at WorkDavid Bonior,John Sweeney and Mary Beth Maxwell. According to the Communist Party USA’s People’s Weekly World[16]

One labor source said Solis’ name was put forward by Service Employees President Andrew Stern, whose union — along with theChange To Win coalition — endorsed Obama’s presidential candidacy long before the AFL-CIO did. SEIU is the biggest union in CTW.
But leaders ranging from CTW Chair Anna Burger to AFL-CIO President John Sweeney to RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum all welcomed the Solis appointment.
So did former House Minority Whip David Bonior (D-Mich.), now chair of pro-labor American Rights At Work, and ARW Executive Director Mary Beth Maxwell. Both had been on lists circulated for the job…Maxwell. Bonior dropped out of the running to endorse her. Both praised Solis, who sits on the group’s board…

Bonior, citing his work with Solis since she entered Congress in 2001 — he was there until 2004 — called her “a terrific leader who I know first-hand will work tirelessly on behalf of America’s working families.”
Sweeney said the AFL-CIO is “thrilled at the prospect of having Solis as our nation’s next Labor Secretary…The AFL-CIO looks forward to working with Solis as she charts new territory for our nation’s working men and women.”

Democratic Socialists of America vice chair Harold Meyerson wrote on American Prospect‘s group blog Tapped[17];

What does Rep. Hilda Solis, Barack Obama’s selection for secretary of labor, bring to the job? Only a record of passionate commitment to working people, a high level of political smarts, and some genuine displays of raw guts that could make her a star of American liberalism...
In the House, Solis has continued to champion labor causes, immigrants’ rights, women’s health and environmental protections. She also worked closely with Rahm Emanuel in recruiting Democratic House candidates from the Southwest and Latino-dominated districts, so she brings to her new job a strong relationship with Obama’s incoming chief-of-staff. Now, she’s in the key position to promote the Employee Free Choice Act, which seems likely to be the most contentious issue on Obama’s agenda. But Solis has never been deterred by controversy.

Obama appointment

In January 2009, Solis was nominated by the Obama administration for the position of Secretary in the Department of Labor and confirmed in February 2009. Her official title is “Chairperson of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee”. Sen. Ted Kennedy. was in charge of Solis’ confirmation.[18][1]

California labor leader and one time Democratic Socialists of America member Jack Henning died in June 2009. The son of a charter member of the plumbers union, Henning rose to become the longtime head of the California Labor Federation before his retirement in 1996. U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis paid posthumous tribute to Henning’s lifelong commitment to workers’ struggles. “Jack Henning was a champion, visionary and unwavering voice on behalf of the working women and men of the United States and the world,” Solis said. “We are all indebted to his leadership, and he will be missed.”[19]

McRINO: The GOP Primary Is “Like Watching A Greek Tragedy”…

Via: Weaselzippers

Kind of like your train wreck of a presidential campaign in 2008?

Via Boston Herald:

Former GOP presidential candidate John McCain said yesterday he fears Republicans will be stuck with a bloodied nominee so sapped by months of campaign attacks that he can’t beat President Obama — even as the party’s four combatants prepare to do battle again today in Michigan and Arizona.

“This is like watching a Greek tragedy,” McCain told the Herald. “It’s the negative campaigning and the increasingly personal attacks … it should have stopped long ago. Any utility from the debates has been exhausted, and now it’s just exchanging cheap shots and personal shots followed by super PAC attacks.”

The Arizona Republican, who endorsed Romney earlier this year and is set to rally with him in Phoenix tonight, said he believes the former Bay State governor will get the nomination, yet he worries a long, drawn out primary campaign could leave Romney too wounded to triumph in November.
